girls weekend in the windy city

Saturday, September 19, 2015

Over the labor day weekend, my bff (literally, we've known each other for more than 20 years!) got together for a girls weekend in Chicago. We grew up as kids together in Malaysia and when I moved here, we sort of got disconnected for a while. So it was a nice surprise when she moved to the U.S. for college, and now we get to see each other again!

As a side note, you might have noticed a few changes on my site. My talented graphic designer sister (shameless plug) is helping me update my site and I am loving it so far! I hope you'll find it easier to navigate around and to check out posts that you're interested in. Also, apologies if you run into any glitches, she is still in the process of ironing out a few kinks.

Anyway, back to the post. It was a beautiful sunny weekend in Chicago, and we declared our time there to be our last summer hurrah! The Chicago River is such a beautiful shade of blue green (hopefully that's not attributed to pollution..?)

We tried to minimize the uber rides we took and walked around everywhere. One of my favorite things about exploring new cities is looking at the different architecture and cool skyscrapers.

The Chicago jazz fest happened to be going on that weekend, so there were plenty of people hanging around Millenium Park.

We stopped here for a break and caught a jazz band rehearsing before their performance. Rehearsal or not, they were really good!

We had our fair share probably more of good food and treats over the weekend, but this Italian gelato spot was one of my faves. It's a cute little cafe on the corner of a street, with adorable brick walls and a case full of so many flavors of gelato that you won't be able to decide!

I finally settled on pistachio and raspberry. However, I should note that you can pick a lot more than two flavors! Each cone is hand scooped and if you look at the photo above, you can see that the gelato is scooped "petal-by-petal," So in theory, you could pick a flavor for each petal, though I have a feeling that wouldn't end up tasting very good...

Not pictured, but other fun things to do that we did in Chicago:
// Shopping on Michigan Ave (!!!)
// Chill on Oak Street Beach
// Wander around Eataly - there's a Nutella bar, cheesesss, wine, cool balsamic vinegars (did I just call balsamic vinegar cool?!)
// Take a Soul Cycle class so you can eat more ice cream
