I'm glad you're here too! Life lately has involved a lot of food - good food. Travel is a big part of my job. And one of the perks that comes with that is getting to fly my family / friends to come visit me if I choose not to fly home that week.

A couple weeks ago, I flew my sister down to Houston to spend the weekend. We spent most of our time there at a conference and didn't have much time to explore, but we still really wanted to go out to try at least one good restaurant. At the end of the conference, we had a couple hours before my sis had to fly back, so we decided to check out Common Bond. Apparently it's one of the must try places in Houston, and it was perfect because it wouldn't take up as much time as a sit-down restaurant would. Also, you know it's gotta be good if it's in the Zagat guide - all my fellow Gilmore Girls fans, you know what I mean ;).

Cafe / bakery places are my favorite. This one fit the bill - light, airy, high ceilings, and look at all the perfect pastries..

We got there a little late, around two in the afternoon. The place was pretty packed, but we didn't mind too much as we were busy snapping away. Even so, I would recommend getting there earlier if you want lunch. The cafe only serves brunch on the weekends and almost everything was sold out when we got there. We ended up sharing a chicken torta sandwich (below) and a couple of pastries. The sandwich was really good. So was the almond croissant - it had a soft, flaky crust with a lightly sweetened almond filling. I usually don't like almond flavored things, but this I liked.

Birthday month = we have to get cheesecake, duh. It was good. If you're ever in Houston, I'd say this place is definitely worth checking out.
